Sweet Sofia

We got the difficult news tonight that Levi’s best friend, Sofia, who was almost 6, passed away.  We met little Sofia at Jill’s House in Indiana when she was 3.  Like Jude, she was there to go to the IU Proton Therapy Center for brain radiation following a recurrence.  She had brain tumors all over her head and down her spine when we met her.  The prognosis wasn’t good.  Nevertheless, her parents sold their house in Ukraine and gave up the life they had there to travel to America to seek the life-saving treatment that was not possible in Ukraine.  She and Levi couldn’t speak the same language, but they hit if off.  We kept in touch over the past couple years.  We were encouraged when we learned that Sofia’s cancer was miraculously gone.  But, the treatment caused the side of effect of disabling strokes.  When I told the boys tonight that Sofia went to live with Jesus in heaven, Jude felt it necessary to clarify that that meant she died.  Levi right away said, “So she can see now?”  Levi is right that Sofia is now totally restored, able to walk, talk and see again.  We look forward to seeing her again someday, but pray for the family she left behind.
