What We’ve Been Up To

Since being on Channel 9, we’ve been busy, and obviously haven’t posted much. We continue to work on our house. We have nearly completed the interior painting, and will leave the rest until our second guest bedroom becomes a child’s bedroom. I’ve been working on soffits in our living room when I can find the time in between weddings and other family events. It will be a great way to bring some light into the room. There are no light fixtures in there now.

In late March, I lost my job in St. Cloud. It has ended up being a huge blessing, though at the time it was painful. I am now working in Minnetonka, only 9 miles from home, close enough that I can go home for lunch! It also came with a huge raise, more than both raises and bonuses I got at my last job – put together! I’m also saving tons of money on gas, and got about an hour a day back, since I have a much shorter commute.

In the past month, we have been very busy on weekends. We went to Fargo to cheer on Jessica’s sister in the Fargo marathon. We’ve also been to two weddings, and celebrated Mother’s Day weekend with both of our moms.

What’s on the horizon for us? Well, we are finishing some of the remaining painting, primarily trimwork. We also plan to paint the outside of the house. We bought a new bed frame that also needs some paint (though it hurts me deeply because it is made of a nice Maple, and I think it needs to be stained.) Jessica also ordered the chair and a half that she has been wanting badly since buying the house, we expect it to be another month or more before it comes.

How about kids? Well, we are not expecting any yet. Jessica would point out that the key word is “yet”. The plan is that once the outside of the house is painted, we’ll start trying to have a baby. We want to wait until then so that there aren’t any issues with paint fumes, as Jessica isn’t getting out of helping, since it is her desire that this project gets done. 😀 If anyone reading this is free over the July 4th weekend (we have MOnday and Tuesday off), we’d love it if you came and helped paint. We’ll be using a sprayer (or two), so it shouldn’t be too difficult.

That’s all I can think of. Maybe Jessica can come up with more and elaborate.

Andy on TV

I’ll be on Fox9 on Monday, February 13. The nature of the internet being what it is, I shouldn’t say why, but tune in and you’ll see.

Jessica and I got a tour of the station (along with UPN 29) on Saturday. Here we’re at the 9 News desk.

Updated Blog Address

I just got the address to this blog updated. Now when you go to andyandjess.net, you stay at andyandjess.net and no longer get redirected to another, more confusing address. The old address will work though, so if we haven’t bored you silly by not posting frequently enough and you are still checking us out via a bookmark/favorites link, you shouldn’t have any trouble reaching us.

Site Updates

I upgraded the computer that this website is located on recently, and in the process I decided to switch programs used to run the blog. I upgraded my own blog months ago, and saw no good reason to install the old program on the new system. That’s why this blog looks so different than it did just a week ago.

I also got a photo album going. Right now there are pictures from my trips to Israel in 2002 and Florida in 2003. There are also pictures from Jessica and my trips to San Antonio, The Boundry Waters, and our date at Como Zoo last summer. I hope to get wedding pictures up there eventually, but finding time to prepare them might be difficult.

You can view the photo album here.

Jessica to the Rescue

Sunday we celebrated the Resurrection of the Lord. For some unknown reason, I decided to celebrate with a quick trip to the Emergency Room.

I had wired the electronics in our entertainment setup in the basement with a couple of coax wires for the satellite dish and a couple data lines months back (one for the Tivo and the other for the X-Box). The job I did worked, but it wasn’t pretty. I decided this weekend to fix it up so that it would be pretty. I decided to move the wires from the back of the shelves to inside the wall.

Once I got the wires all moved, the next step for me was to hook them up to a new wall plate to complete the project. I got the coax wires and the first data wire hooked up and ready to go. The second data wire was only sticking out of the hole in the wall a few inches though, and would require a little contortionism to crawl into the cabinet to get it finished. I managed to get the wires (8 of them in each data cable) hooked up to the back of the plug. I proceeded to clip off the extra wire with a utility knife. About the time I got to the third of the eight wires, I slipped and sliced my left middle finger pretty deep. I knew right away that I would need stitches. It would heal on its own with time, but it would open back up too easily and I didn’t want that. The pain was minimal, all things considered, but I screamed in order to get Jessica’s attention, who was upstairs working at the time.

Neither of us knew where the closest urgent care center was. I got the phone book out, but quickly got frustrated when I didn’t find one right away. I told Jessica to just call 911, they would tell us where to go. She did, and they did. We were off to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.

Jessica got me there fairly quickly, and managed to do so without further damage to me. After a short wait, I got in to see the doctor, who ordered a tetanus shot and gave me four stitches. It was all over in a matter of minutes. From the time I slipped and cut myself to the time we got home from the hospital was just over an hour.

Jessica felt bad because she didn’t think I needed stitches and didn’t know where to go, but she did great getting me to the care I needed.
