Jude and his brothers each asked me to get them some chocolate milk this morning. I distributed the milk obediently. Jude handed his back and said, “Make it a hot chocolate with marshmallows. Sorry, but I’m the customer and the customer is always right.” Oh brother!
When Jude saw me leave the room tonight (on my way to the bathroom), he yelled out, “Emergency! Â Mom is on the loose!” Â He chased me down and I decided to not go to the bathroom after all. Â I tend to have a little train of boys follow me where ever I go.
Probably inspired by watching Extreme Cheapskates, Jude said, “If we want to save money, we could just not flush the toilet every 27th time or something.â€
“I really want some more caffeine.” (No, we don’t oblige.)
For school today, Jude had to write a thank you note. With no direction from Andy, Jude chose to write a thank you letter to God.
It says:
Dear God
thank you for my family. Asher makes me laugh a lot. My dad is great. My mom and dad are the best.
Love
Jude.
This weekend, we traveled to see my other Grandma, and celebrate her 85th birthday. The surprise party was held at a local restaurant, and on the table was some BBQ sauce made by my aunt, using my late uncle Dave’s recipe. It’s one of those super-secret things, my aunt Cindy is the only person on Earth who knows that recipe now. I bought a jar from her, but the super-secret nature of the recipe has got me curious to find my own recipe that is as-good-or-better (it’s good stuff, that won’t be an easy task).
Grandma Olson’s recipe box has five recipes for BBQ sauce in it. Though there are similarities, my quick scan suggests that none are exactly the same. This is the first, I’ll post the others as well.
1 | TBS | Oil |
1/4 | Cup | Finely chopped onion |
1 | Cup | Chile sauce |
1/3 | Cup | Cider Vinegar |
1/2 | Cup | Water |
2 | TBS | Dark brown syrup |
1 | TBS | Worcestershire sauce |
1/2 | tsp | Salt |
1/4 | tsp | Paprika |
Makes about 1 3/4 Cups (14oz.)
I’m pretty happy to report that Jude seems to have inherited Andy’s techie abilities. Â Andy has always kept the boys’ iPad games locked so that they could only access them after Andy or I entered a password, but school apps were always accessible. Â Well, Jude figured out how to go into Settings and shut off the app locker. Â So, Andy now had to password protect the Settings folder too.
On top of that, Jude has managed to figure out how to change the time on the digital clocks. Â He changed the time on the clock in the bathroom I get ready in each morning so that it was 7 minutes behind the actual time. Â I realized it this morning when getting ready to bring Jude to karate. Â Jude fessed up that he had changed the time so that I would miss my bus that brings me to work so we’d get more time together. Â Smart, sneaky guy.
